We had a great time visiting the delightful town of Tubac Arizona a couple of weeks ago, for a short getaway winter weekend. Tubac thrives in the warm winter sun near the Mexican border south of Tucson with its reputation as upbeat artist colony. The Art Colony of Tubac was established in 1752 as a Spanish presidio (fort). Working artists’ studios now surround the grounds which once served as the home for a Spanish military garrison.
Linda and I were cruising thru the art galleries always looking for design ideas we can use in current or future projects. While perusing thru one shop we kept hearing some wonderful music enticing us outside to listen closer. There we discovered a young duo singing beautiful songs in Spanish and Italian to the accompaniment of a classical guitar.
We were very intrigued with their talent so we waited until they took a break, to find out more about them and their music. It turned out they were from Cuba, and had been given political asylum here in the US. We had a wonderful afternoon and evening in conversation with our new found friends Alex (guitar) and Yasel. They are both highly trained musicians now in this country studying English and working so they can attend graduate school.
